9900 WilshireThis is the Robinsons-May 7.95 acre site directly adjacent to the Hilton Hotel. Currently on the site is a 228,000 s.f. department store building. The developer is proposing two 12 story residential towers, each 144 feet tall, and two four story loft buildings 48 feet tall in front, along Merv Griffin Way. The north tower will have 348,671 s.f. and the south tower will have 382,191 s.f. The north loft building will be 49,782 s.f. and the south loft building will be 49,042 s.f. They are proposing 252 luxury condominiums in four separate buildings with approximately 20,456 s.f. of commercial space fronting Santa Monica Blvd., which will include 15,656 s.f. of retail, 2,400 s.f. of restaurant dining, 600 s.f. of outdoor dining, and 1,800 s.f. of back-of-house restaurant. For those who live close to the Robinsons-May site, the developer proposes that he will close his restaurant and bar at 2:00 a.m. We believe this project is too big. The cumulative impact of both of these projects – the Hilton expansion and the 9900 Wilshire – will dramatically alter our cityscape, add immeasurably to an already highly trafficked area, and create havoc during the simultaneous construction periods. Since this project is primarily condos, the developer and the Environmental Impact Report argue that the traffic generation will be reduced as compared to the current department store traffic generation. |
