Beverly Hills Unified School DistrictOn November 15, 2007, the Beverly Hills Board of Education communicated its concerns with respect to the Hilton Expansion Project in a letter to City Hall. Specifically, the letter identified the existing inadequacies within the Environmental Impact Report in the areas of air quality, geological materials and soils, noise, traffic, water, waste water, sun and shadows and cumulative impacts. The letter further stated, “In addition, the project EIR, in large part fails to analyze the potential impacts of the Project to the school children attending the El Rodeo School which is directly adjacent to the Project.” The Beverly Hills Unified School District’s November 15, ‘07 letter to City Hall concluded with the following admonition: “The District is extremely concerned about the Project’s potential impacts to the school children and the lack of specific analysis of such impacts to the children. “Because the project EIR is inadequate in the areas discussed above, the District respectfully requests that City Council decline to certify the Project EIR and not approve the Project and direct staff to address these potential environmental impacts in the EIR and recirculate for comments.” Based upon our experience with City Hall, we believe that the City Council is poised to approve the massive Hilton/Waldorf Towers expansion project. On numerous occasions, we have petitioned City Hall requesting that it place on the ballot for a vote of the city’s residents approval/disapproval of this project. Time and again, City Hall has denied our requests. We are committed to saving and enhancing our quality of life. Based upon past practice and misdeeds, City Hall seeks to do otherwise. We are prepared to change the culture at City Hall and remove from the city council all those who support massive development and whose out-of-sync mindset refuses to grant to the residents their basic right to vote on the defining nature of our city’s General Plan. We seek and need your support. We value your participation. Please contact us with your thoughts and ideas.
