Statement of Endorsement We seek to encourage the exercise of reason in our political dialogue. We care profoundly that those who represent us, those whom we elect, those to whom we grant our political power reflect the best of who we are. We seek to refine our political expectations by encouraging moderation in our elected officials who always seem to be convinced that they are “right” in any and all matters of significant public concern or, for that matter, in any and all controversies. We support candidates who we believe not only will put forth reasoned positions in an open, free and democratic marketplace of ideas, but also will encourage, stimulate and engage respectfully differing opinions. Presently, the intellectual and political conformity at City Hall breeds intolerance for dissent. More and more, we hear our fellow residents, who share our quality of life concerns and commitment to maintain and enhance our “village community”, frustrated, disappointed and at times deceived by City Hall: frustrated by City Hall’s dismissiveness of petitioning residents; disappointed with City Hall’s sponsorship of excessive high rise, high density commercial development that generates gridlock traffic; and deceived by City Hall’s embrace of developers and selective misrepresentations, particularly regarding traffic, parking and adverse environmental impacts. This election affords the opportunity to change this anti-resident, pro-development culture. We need to turn out the incumbents, Linda Briskman and Barry Brucker. We also need to elect independent, resident-oriented leaders who have chosen to take well-reasoned public positions on issues of significant public concern. We are hopeful that John Mirisch and Richard Stone will encourage free expression of opinion in support and in opposition of all that emanates from City Hall. We hope that they will enhance the dignity of the public office they will hold and restore credibility and confidence in our city government. We hope that there will be fair play restored to City Hall ensuring that our residents will be heard and treated with the same dignity and respect presently given developers.
